Research Scientist (m/f/d)

Coordinator of in vivo Disease Models (Veterinarian / Physician / Biologist)

Heart Diseases are the leading cause of death and represent one of the major medical challenges of our time. The prevalence of acute and chronic heart failure with reduced as well as preserved ejection fraction is worldwide on its rise. The Institute for Experimental Cardiology studies the molecular basis of different forms of cardiac diseases and is embedded in the Collaborative Research Center 1550, the Helmholtz Institute for Translational AngioCardioScience (HI-TAC), and the German Center for Cardiovascular Research (DZHK), providing an ideal infrastructure for innovative translational research.

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated staff scientist to join our team. You will be responsible for the scientific coordination of our small animal in vivo model core. Your tasks include administration and supervision of a team of well-trained specialized technicians, hands-on performance and further development of microsurgery and phenotyping techniques, and coordination as well planning of genetic mouse lines.

The ideal candidate should have profound experience and deep knowledge in small animal disease models, small animal surgery, generation of mouse genetic models and cardiovascular phenotyping techniques.

The institute has long lasting experience in preclinical in vivo models of cardiovascular diseases and genetic mouse models. In our small animal model and phenotyping core we have established various genetic, pharmacological and surgical small animal models to study mechanisms of heart diseases. We have profound expertise in generating genetic mouse lines and applying CRISPR/Cas9 based gene editing and gene therapy techniques to study the function of specific genes and develop translational approaches. The person joining will be part of an established group of experienced personnel that applies highly standardized procedures and all modern state-of-the-art technologies for comprehensive cardiovascular preclinical in vivo research (e.g. mouse microsurgery platforms, VisualSonics Vevo Echocardiography, DSI PhysioTel Telemetry; acquisition of a PET/MRI system is planned).
